Libertarians Abroad

For Libertarians living around the world!

According to the Washington Independent, the amended version of Audit the Fed passed the Senate 96 to 0, which would lead one to believe that the libertarian activism and tea party protests around the country are finally getting some where. But consider this: Another version that was closer to the original -- that is to say, it would've created a regular audit rather than a one-time audit, lost miserabley 37 to 62. I

This leads me to believe that this is just status quo politicking. Why?

Answer me this...

Why would a senator vote to audit the Fed for this year, but not be concerned about next year nor the year after that nor the year after that. Only thirty-seven senators thought that it might be prudent to keep on looking into what the Fed is up to later?

I don't care whether you are for or against auditing the Fed but it makes no sense at all to conduct a spot audit and never audit again. What this spells to me is that this is only political expediency that is on display here.

The more things stay the same the less they change...

Actually "let them eat" cake is exactly what they, the senators, are saying with this. It is a stop gap legislation that is gambling that this will buy them time through the upcoming primaries and elections.

I read the bill that passed limited the audit specifically to the bailout. The other trillions of dollars for nearly a century is completely ignored.

The "tea parties" are working. Politicians hear a good buzz word and put on a theater, hoping the masses aren't smart enough to realize they've been lied to again. I'm not sure it will work this time.

There are 60,000 serious well informed libertarians with experience of spreading the truth world-wide. These citizen journalists are informing the recently awakened still semi-comatose "conservatives" and "liberals".

The politicos are hoping this charade will satisfy the masses but its possible this could be taken as another "let them eat cake" dismissal. And we know how that ended.

Personally I think its too late for a political solution, either of the "throw the bums out" kind or "off with their heads" variety. Its my belief the concept of the state has reached the end of its life. Unfortunately it will likely take two generations for the transition to occur. It could be a horribly bumpy ride and I won't see the destination.
